Courage:
Someone who overcomes great obstacles to live life to the fullest and
inspires others to meet challenges.
Dave and Ann
Bahm

Ann and Dave Bahm are still very much
in love – not bad for 18 years of marriage, 2 kids, ongoing
chemotherapy, radiation and even paralysis. The fact that Ann has had a
continuing battle with cancer is second place to enjoying life and time
with their children, Ryan & Alex. Until this last bout of cancer which
caused the paralysis – Ann would spend her time in Chemo one week, back
to work as a nurse the next. Dave, a long time Salmon Days Volunteer,
Little league Coach and Umpire, also finds time to spend with Alex in
Boy Scouts, and cycling all over with Ryan. In fact Dave is also the
coordinator of his cul de sac’s cycling team from daily 30 mile rides to
one day trips on the STP. Ann’s motto is “Do what you have to do and
don’t dwell on it,” Dave’s is “It is easy to be a cheerleader for a
strong team”. Courage doesn’t say enough about this team and the legacy
that they inspire.
Learning Promotion:
A person whose enriching and inspiring contributions create enthusiasm
for learning.
Kim
Villeneuve

“For every
problem, there is a solution. For every vision, there is a path”.
These are mantras by which Kim Villeneuve leads the Eastlake High School
DECA program. Started just 18 months ago, Kim was determined to use her
marketing background to get local high school students excited about
business and marketing. She developed the entire curriculum from
scratch, rallied Eastlake Administrators for support and watched the
membership more than double in size during the first year. Convinced
that students need “real life experiences” to integrate their learning
in a quantifiable way, Kim arranges meetings with some of the areas most
prominent business leaders and CEOs. The students have, for example,
worked with Starbucks co-founder
Howard Behar, the executives of Cranium and will be
traveling to New York soon to meet with the executives and designers at
Liz Claiborne. If you have any doubt about how Kim is influencing local
students, drop by her house on any evening of the week and you will find
many of them working away!

shows a passion for helping others, for giving service to our community,
and for being a shining example inspiring his or her peers and younger
generations to follow suit
Josh Pelonio

Years
ago when Josh visited relatives in California he was inspired by his
Uncle’s work as a Fireman/EMT. Upon returning home to Sammamish and in
the aftermath of September 11th, Josh learned about volunteer
opportunities with the American Red Cross. At the age of 14, Josh
assisted a man who was having a heart attack and quite possibly helped
save this stranger’s life. Josh now serves as the Operations Manager
for the First Aid Station Team with the Seattle Red Cross. For his
Senior Project, Josh worked with his teachers at Eastlake High School to
arrange his schedule so that he could spend 23 days helping with
Hurricane Wilma relief efforts in Florida.
