Founder Awardees

Unlike the 10 other SAMMI Awards, whose awardees go through an extensive public nomination, interview, and independent judging process, the Founder’s Award recipient is chosen by the Board of Directors as someone who epitomizes the term “being of service”.

2010 Award:

Marty Budzius

In his more than 45 years in the Sammamish community, Marty has never stopped giving of his time and talents. From teacher to administrator, to 32 years as high school sports announcer, Marty’s presence has touched many. He volunteers at the Issaquah Salmon Days Festival, and manages the 4th of July Kids and Pets parade. Marty was a driving force behind the foundation of the Rotary Club of Issaquah, and is the only person to be elected club President on two separate occasions. He is the club’s last active charter member. Marty is the announcer at the Rotary Challenge Day Race, and can often be found assisting visitors at the Issaquah Visitor’s Bureau.

2009 Award:

Kristin Pitt

Kristin truly epitomizes the term “being of service.” For years she has worked behind the scenes to make our community safer and stronger and does so with no expectation of any personal praise or recognition. She has been President of Elementary, Junior High, and High School PTSAs. She is on the Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors and has worked tirelessly to raise money for the new club and Teen Center in Sammamish. At Samantha Smith, Kristin headed up the Emergency Preparedness team, and as a result, the organization and materials are in place to handle any emergency from terrorism to earthquakes. Kristin also raises Guild Dogs and loves to educate the public about their importance. Along with so many people in the Sammamish community, the SAMMI Awards Board of Directors appreciates Kristin’s quiet tenacity and commitment to community service.
